How to Cast a Spell

To Cast a Spell

Life is a spell so exquisite that everything conspires to break it.

These wise words by Emily Dickinson have a meaning deeper than what is seen. It tells us that the biggest magic in life is life itself. Think about it;how you came to exist, what you are destined to do, and how you live in harmony with all. It is all quite magical. We are faced with a lot of hindrances in life, many of which threaten our existence and break this spell. Others just cause us unnecessary discomfort. In a scenario as such, it would be completely justified if one were to study the art of communicating with the spiritual universe, to have a better life.

This is the purpose of spells; to give out some positive energy to the universe, and ask for what one desires. I specify the word positive, because it is considered wrong to use magical powers to harm. It is a law of witchcraft, that what one projects; one gets back threefold. This means that if you were to use spells for a negative purpose, you would eventually get three times the misery right back.

So, now that we are familiar with its purpose, lets move on to the activity. Casting a spell is a very generalized term.

How to Cast a Spell

If you are a movie buff, you’d probably have seen people wave a wand and repeat an incantation; and the task is done. Unfortunately (or maybe for the good), this is not the case. Casting a spell is much more complicated.

If one were to study the history and geographical significance of spell casting, one would find the act varying by region and time. African and Native Americans used wands and crystals to cast spells, and offered gifts to attain spiritual powers. Egyptians and Greek cast spells directly, using very little or no tools other than the incantation. These are some examples. If one were to dig deeper, one would find many more such stories.

However, now the situation has changed. We are now faced with various options for spell casting, regardless of our backgrounds. And we can choose from the variety that is displayed. Even though the spells may be different in practicality, the theory that goes behind them is the same, which is why the preparation we do before practicing them is standard.

The things to remember before casting a spell are very simple. Firstly, one must be mentally sound. This means that you must remove all negative and distracting thoughts from your mind. This can be done by meditation. Secondly, one must feel clean and pure. It is a common practice for people to bathe in essential oils such as rosemary before trying a spell. Thirdly, one must find a comforting environment to perform the spell. And last but not least, one must have faith and be positive. A spell like anything else in life does not have immediate results. You must have your goal in mind; remind yourself of what it is that you desire. And this should give you the strength and determination to be persistent, till the spell gives you results.
